Sikereti Camp in Khaudum Park reopened

The South of the Khaudum National Park is once again available for overnight stays. This was confirmed by the co-operator of Sikereti Camp, Henry Fernandes, when asked by NamibiaFocus. According to the report, the camp was reopened to guests at the beginning of July after a long renovation period. The official handover took place at the end of July.

Khaudum National Park is located off the beaten track in north-eastern Namibia. It is known for its pristine nature and large herds of elephants. Sikereti is about 10 km from the southern border of Khaudum Park and about 60 km from Tsumkwe.

Camp not fenced

The special attraction of Sikereti Camp is that it is unfenced. It offers eight self-catering tented bungalows with en-suite bathrooms. Each of the spacious bungalows has a raised veranda and barbecue facilities.

There are also four camping pitches, each designed for groups travelling with up to four vehicles. Each site has its own washing area with showers, flush toilets and central fireplace. Hot water comes from so-called "donkeys". These are instantaneous water heaters that are heated with wood.

The campsite had been in urgent need of renovation since 2015 and was officially closed in March 2019. The renovation work was delayed several times, also because of the Corona crisis. The tented camp was newly added.

Income for participating communities

Besides Sikereti, there is Khaudum Camp. It is located in the north of the national park. Both shelters are privately run in cooperation with the Khaudum North Complex Conservancy and the Gciriku Traditional Authority.

Khaudum National Park is recommended as a side trip on the way between the centre of the country and the Okavango River or the Zambezi Region. However, especially for the northern part of the park, you need a four-wheel drive vehicle and some experience manoeuvring through deep sand.
