Deceptive Widow

Introduction: Deceptive Widows (Palpopleura deceptor) can be observed at shallow pans with immature grasses or reeds. They have slender abdomens. It is often mistaken for the Pied-Spot because of similar wing patterns.

Distribution: Single observations in Epupa Falls, Caprivi Strip, Bwabwata National Park, Windhoek and central Namibia have been recorded.

Colouration: Creamy white face, dark streaks on otherwise clear wings.

Breeding: Larval stage is a similar appearance to adults.

Flight season: February to July.

Conservation: Not threatened.
