Black-Winged Flutterer

Adult Black-winged Flutterers form swarms at the tops of trees in swamps and lush oxbows of floodplains.

Black-Winged Flutterer

Introduction: Adult Black-winged Flutterers (Rhyothemis fenestrina) form swarms at the tops of trees in swamps and lush oxbows of floodplains.

Distribution: Kavango, Kwando and Zambezi floodplains.

Colouration: Black body and brownish-black wings in both male and female, that glisten in rainbow colours (depending on the light). The eyes are brownish.

Breeding: Birds and ants feed on emerging species.

Flight season: September to March.

Conservation: Not threatened.
