Titanite

Titanite is named for its titanium content and occurs in in granites.

Titanite

Introduction: Titanite forms prismatic crystals, often in the shape of 'fishtail' twins usually orange, brown or yellow in colour. It is named for its titanium content and occurs in in granites.

Distribution: The farm Tantus in the Gamsberg Region, the Krantzberg Mine and the Ais dome skarn north of Uis.

Composition: Oxide.

Crystal system: Monoclinic.

Lustre: Adamantine.

Streak: White.

Hardness: 5-5.5.
