Introduction: Talc is the softest known mineral. It is used in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries, as a paint additive and ceramics. Talc is known as 'soapstone' as it has a soapy, greasy feel and is widely used in soapstone carvings throughout southern Africa.
Distribution: Talc schists and serpentinites occur in the Windhoek District. It is also found in the Gobabis District
