Spodumene

Spodumene crystals can be found in lithium-bearing minerals.

Spodumene

Introduction: Large crystals of spodumene can be found in lithium-bearing minerals, usually in lithium-rich pegmatites. It dervies from the Greek word 'spodoumenos', which means 'reduce to ashes' and refers to the grey-white mass that spodumene produces when lit.

Distribution: Karibib-Usakos area

Composition: Silicate

Crystal system: Monoclinic

Lustre: Vitreous to dull

Streak: White

Hardness: 6.5-7.5
