Phenakite

In days gone by, Phenakite used to be mistaken for quartz.

Phenakite

Introduction: In days gone by, Phenakite used to be mistaken for quartz, hence the Greek name phenax, meaning 'deceiver'. It is found in pegmatites often containing beryl.

Distribution: Klein Spitzkoppe pegmatites and the Erongo Mountain pegmatites.

Composition: Silicate

Crystal system: Hexagonal

Lustre: Vitreous

Streak: White

Hardness: 7.5-8
