Muscovite

Muscovite is a common rock-forming mineral.

Muscovite

Introduction: Muscovite is a common rock-forming mineral named after the former Russian province Muscovy. It is used in panes made out of large, clear sheets of muscovite mica. It is also used in the electronics industry.  It can be crushed and used as an additive in plaster, wall coatings and paint.

Distribution: Found everywhere in pegmatites in Namibia and common in granites and metamorphic schists. The Brandberg-Erongo-Uis-Karibib pegmatites contain large amounts of muscovite.

Composition: Silicate

Crystal system: Monoclinic

Lustre: Vitreous, pearly

Streak: White

Hardness: 2.5-4
