Manganite

Manganite is distinguishable by its jet black colour and sheen.

Manganite

Introduction: Manganite can be confused with magnetite, but is distinguishable by its jet black colour and lustrous sheen. It is one of the main ore minerals of manganese, occurring in low temperature veins and in manganese deposits.

Distribution: Found in large amounts at the Otjosondu manganese fields. Also at Kombat Mine.

Composition: Hydroxide

Crystal system: Monoclinic

Lustre: Sub-metallic, metallic

Streak: Red-brown to black

Hardness: 4
