Malachite is a widespread secondary mineral.

Introduction: Malachite is a widespread secondary mineral associated with the hundreds of copper deposits scattered around the country. A major feature that identified malachite was the prominent green staining of rocks.

Distribution: Tsumeb Mine, northern Kaokoland.

Composition: Carbonate.

Crystal system: Monoclinic.

Lustre: Vitreous.

Streak: Pale green

Hardness: 3.5-4.
