Magnesite is mined for magnesium.

Introduction: Magnesite is mined for magnesium and some large crystals have been found in Namibia. The Greek words magnesia lithos mean 'magnesian stone', an ore once mined on the coast of ancient Greece.

Distribution: Found in the Windhoek and Rehoboth Districts

Composition: Carbonate

Crystal system: Crystal system

Lustre: Dull, vitreous

Streak: White

Hardness: 3.75-4
