Introduction: Green and purple colours dominate although grey, yellow and colourless varieties have been mined. It is common in granite pegmatites often in dolomite or limestone.

Distribution: The Okorusu Deposit, 48km north of Otjiwarongo, occasionally in the Erongo Mountains and Klein Spitzkoppe, Garub Mine, 100km north of Karasberg, 25km north of Uis, and The Seven Pillars mine close to the Orange River.

Crystal system: Cubic

Lustre: Vitreous

Streak: White

Hardness: 4
