Diaspore

Introduction: Diaspore weakens when heated, hence the Greek interpretation 'to scatter'. Flat, roundish crystals are usually formed, stacked one on top of the other. It is often associated with metamorphic minerals.

Distribution: Found at Kyanite Kop on the farm Bethlehem 27 in the Windhoek District.

Composition: Hydroxide

Crystal system: Orthorhombic

Lustre: Pearly, vitreous

Streak: White

Hardness: 6.5-7
