Bornite

Bornite is named after Ignaz Edler von Born, an Austrian naturalist.

Introduction: Bornite is often associated with chalcocite and chalcopyrite and together with copper have similar geographic distribution locations. This mineral is named after Ignaz Edler von Born, an Austrian naturalist.

Distribution: Rosh Pinah, Matchless, Kombat and Tsumeb Mines have produced bornite, otherwise it is a fairly rare mineral in Namibia.

Composition: Sulphide

Crystal system: Orthorhombic

Lustre: Metallic

Streak: Grey-black

Hardness: 3
