Introduction: Quartzite ranks as one of the hardest rocks. Quartz sandstone recrystallizes when heat and pressure are applied, forming new mineral grains.
Distribution: Quartzite outcrops occur in the Windhoek District and are reasonably abundant in the Nama sedimentary succession.
Composition: Mainly recrystallized quartz. Very few other minerals are present.
Colouration: White, grey, pink and buff.
Uses: Some samples of quartzite can be used as floor tiles.
