Introduction: Norite is a similar rock to gabbro but contains a different orthopyroxene called hypershene. Some deposits, where the rock is uniform and without blemishes or flaws, are quarried for dimension stone.
Distribution: In the Sinclair Sequence.
Composition: Plagioclase feldspars, clinopyroxene and some olivine, enstatite or augite.
Colouration: Both are dark rocks, usually black with occasional white flecks of plagioclase feldspar.
Uses: Tiles, tabletops, cladding and tombstones.
