It is a coarse-grained rock that emits an attractive blue iridescence.

Anorthosite

Introduction: Anorthosite is a coarse-grained igneous rock that often emits an attractive blue iridescence due to the presence of labradorite feldspar.

Distribution: Occurs in the Kunene Complex and some deposits can be found in certain areas of Kaokoland and the Sinclair Sequence.

Composition: Made up from around 90% plagioclase feldspar.

Colouration: White or pale-coloured, often with a speckled appearance due to a copious infiltration of minor dark minerals such as pyroxene.

Uses: Some anorthosite is quarried for building.
