Introduction: The Coral snake (Aspidelaps lubricus) is a short snake with a reddish head. It has been described by some experts as a 'bad-tempered clown!' They prefer a habitat of rocky outcrops. Their venom is believed to be neurotoxic and the effects are largely unknown.
Distribution: Throughout Namibia except for the north-east regions of the country.
Diet: Small vertibrates including other reptiles.
Colouring: The body is orange to coral red and the belly is yellowish.
Breeding: Females lay between 3 to 11 eggs in December.
Size: Max SVL male 687mm, female 600mm.
