Speckled burrowing skink
Introduction: The Speckled Burrowing skink (Typhlacontias punctatissimus) is the smallest and most slender member of this species. Stones are a major source of shelter and they are also found in sand on stony hillsides and sand at the base of trees or under the leaves of Welwitschia plants.
Distribution: Sparsely vegetated desert of the north Namib Desert, such as the Kunene sand sea and into Marienfluss Valley as far south as the Munutum River.
Diet: Not known.
Colouring: A black spot on some scale rows give the body a striped appearance. A golden brown dorsal band, head and side black lines and speckled rows on the belly and underside of the tail as well as marbled head spots, add to the beauty of this creature.
Breeding: Females give birth to a few babies each breeding season.
Size: Max SVL 86mm.
