Introduction: Duerden's or Beaked Burrowing asp (Atractaspis duerdeni) is a short, stocky creature with a short, rounded snout. They prefer a habitat of sandy soil in thornbush savannah. A bite will cause swelling and pain around the wound.

Distribution: There is an isolated population of this species in Etosha National Park.

Diet: Sleeping lizards and other snakes.

Colouring: The body is a uniform blackish-brown or grey above and white or cream-pink on the belly.

Breeding: On average 5 eggs hatch in late summer.

Size: Max SVL male 650mm, female 610mm.
