Cape rough scaled lizard
Introduction: The Cape Rough-Scaled lizard (Ichnotropis capensis) is a medium-sized lizard with a narrow head.
Distribution: North-eastern Namibia including Etosha Pan.
Diet: Termites and insects are sought throughout the day.
Colouring: Adults are a uniform grey to yellowish-brown or red-brown with a narrow, white dorsolateral stripe bordered by black blotches. A broad, black stripe on the side is bordered below by another white stripe. The belly is white.
Breeding: Females dig a small burrow in soft soil, laying 3 to 9 eggs that hatch in 56 to 77 days in January to March. The female is able to lay 2 clutches before she heads off to the great lizard cemetrey in the sky.
Size: SVL min 50 to 60mm. Max SVL 62mm.
