Introduction: Muller's platanna (Xenopus muelleri)are named after Johannes Müller, a noted German anatomist. Features include a rounded snout, upward facing eyes and a protective eye membrane. Tropical savannah is their favoured habitat. This species of frog call whilst still under water.
Distribution: Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip) and Okavango Delta.
Diet: Mainly insects.
Colouration: Brown to dark grey upperparts with irregular dark blotches. A number of distinctive lateral line organs are visible along the flanks.
Breeding: Tadpoles grow up to 70mm, swimming with the tail upwards whilst filter-feeding on phyplankton.
Maximum size: 90mm.
