Damaraland pygmy toad
Introduction: Damaraland Pygmy toads (Poyntonophrynes damaranus) are endemic to Namibia, and as the name suggests, to Damaraland in particular. They occur in seasonal water bodies within their distribution range.
Distribution: Confined to Damaraland, Kaokoland and Waterberg areas of the country.
Diet: Mainly insects.
Colouration: Olive-brown upperparts with irregular, sometimes symmetrical dark blotches, usually edged in black. Larger blotches are common in the shoulder region. The underside is yellowish-white.
Breeding: Little is known of their tadpoles. The males throat turns yellow when changing from a tadpole to a frog.
Maximum size: 37mm.
