Broad banded grass frog

Introduction: Broad-Banded Grass frogs (Ptychadena mossambica) can be found in dry savannah, grassland and thicket. Humid savannah and forests also attract this species. To avoid danger, they with jump away from water when disturbed, usually heading for the cover of vegetation, where it can hide. Calls are made from here, although in the winter they move to the water's edge in exposed sites.

Distribution: Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip) including Bwabwata National Park, Linyati Marshes, Chobe/Zambezi River systems and the Kwando River region.

Diet: Insects.

Colouration: Grey-brown/brown/green upperparts. Distinctive creamy vertebral brand running from the snout to the vent, bordered with blackish spots. The underside is white.

Breeding: Eggs float on the water after being laid underwater in vegetation.

Maximum size: 53mm.
