Cape dwarf chameleon
Introduction: The Cape dwarf chameleon (Bradypodion pumilum) is a 'large' dwarf chameleon that lives in low coastal bushes and reed beds. They are not as territorial as other species but up to 200 specimens per ha are not uncommon with on occasions 5 or 6 adults sharing a bush. All lizards fend for themselves from birth.
Distribution: The vleis and river courses of the Walvis Bay region.
Diet: Small insects.
Colouring: A uniform leaf green body is often covered with an orange to red-rust lateral stripe.
Breeding: Females produce up to 3 litters per year, born in December with 5 to 12 young as opposed to litters of 3 to 6 born in April.
Size: SVL 65 to 80mm. Max SVL 82mm.
