River Stars (Gomphostigma virgatum) inhabit riverine forest and closed woodland. They can also be observed along rivers and in rocky stream beds. Their Namibian distribution is from around Rehoboth north through the Windhoek and Okahandja regions to Otjiwarongo. This plant can also be found along the central sections of the Orange River and the Fish River Canyon.
This is a grey plant with long, thin weeping branches tapering at the tips. Star-like flowers, often called scented 'confetti' grow on the branch ends. They require plenty of sunshine and water, attract insects and butterflies and flower from November to March.
