Red ice plant

Red Ice-plants (Drosanthemum speciosum) belong to the subfamily Mesembryanthemaceae. They occur in rocky, dry places in the Namib Desert, Fish River Canyon, southern Namibia, Swakopmund, Walvis Bay and the Skeleton Coast. It is a bushy plant with attractive shiny red or orange 'vygie' flowers with light yellow centres and small succulent leaves.

This plant is a popular addition to any succulent garden or in a pot decorating a patio. Flowers bloom in the springtime and attract butterflies and other insects. They do not require much water, grow better with plenty of sunshine and can resist frost.
