Wiry hydroid

Introduction: Wiry hydroids (Amphisbetia operculata) are so-called because of their thin, wiry stems that divide frequently into pairs. These in turn separate at an acute angle, which creates a thin, rambling bush.

Distribution: Orange River mouth north along the Sperrgebeit to Luderitz

Diet: Minute sea food

Colouration: Dark stems

Breeding: Gonothecae are similar to elongate figs in appearance

Max size: Colonies are 50 to 90mm long
