Ceradocus rubromaculatus
They can be found under stones on gravel or coarse sand.

Red striped amphipod

Introduction: Red-striped amphipods (Ceradocus rubromaculatus) can usually be located under stones on gravel or coarse sand. The first antennae are longer than the second pair and nippers are on the end of the first 2 pairs of legs.

Distribution: Throughout Namibian coastal waters including Möwe Bay, Kunene River mouth, Cape Cross, Sandwich Harbour, Luderitz, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay.

Diet: Small sea matter and carrion

Colouration: Distinctive pink to red colour pattern

Breeding: The brood pouch under the body carries eggs which are hatched straight into adults

Max size: 20mm
