Introduction: Ornate amphipods (Cyproidea ornata) are best identified by their striking colouration as well as a humped back and enlarged side-plates on segments 3 and 4, which shield the limbs. A spherical appearance is created when the abdomen is tucked under the body. Common under sea urchins and on rocky reefs.
Distribution: Sandwich Harbour, Luderitz, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, Cape Cross and Henties Bay

Breeding: Eggs emerge from a brood pouch underneath the body as adults
