Introduction: The waves of the Atlantic Ocean bring an abundance of white mussel or wedge shells (Donax serra) to the shoreline. They are a popular food source and bait with a legal catch limit of 50 per day. Features include a wedge shape with rough wavy ridges running across the posterior. Distinctive external ligament.

Distribution: Throughout Namibian coastal waters

Diet: Filter-feeds

Colouration: White with a purple inner surface

Breeding: Planktonic larvae is developed once huge numbers of eggs have developed

Max size: 90mm
