Ischnochiton textilis
They are found on the undersides of boulders in rock pools.

Textile chiton

Introduction: Textile chitons (Ischnochiton textilis) are found on the undersides of boulders in rock pools. If you overturn the boulder they will detach themselves and roll into a ball. The girdle is covered in small oval scales, crossed with 12 to 24 fine ridges.

Distribution: From the mouth of the Orange River to Swakopmund and Walvis Bay and on to the mouth of the Kunene River.

Diet: Nibbles plants

Colouration: Pale yellow or grey shell valves

Max size: 40mm
