Half hairy mussel
Introduction: Half-hairy mussels (Gregariella petagnae) are small in size and so called because half of the rear of the shell is covered in fibrous hairs. The anterior end is swollen. Half-hairy shells occur singly in clumps of seaweed and in rock crevices.
Distribution: Throughout Namibian waters
Diet: Filter-feeds water through specialized syphon
Colouration: Reddish-brown
Breeding: Planktonic larvae is developed from huge numbers of sperm and eggs after being spawned into the water.
Max size: 18mm
