Introduction: Pinhey's Spreadwing (Lestes pinheyi) is named after Elliot CG Pinhey (1910-1999). It has been most commonly recorded in temporary flooded back swamps. Their downward bending upper appendages are a distinctive feature.
Distribution: The floodplains of the Kavango, Kwando and Zambezi Rivers.
Colouration: Patterns are variable.
Breeding: Not known.
Flight season: Depends on regional flooding. September to December, February to March.
Max size: Hindwing length in smaller species 19-23mm.
Conservation: Not threatened.
