Introduction: Julia Skimmers (Orthetrum julia falsum) are mostly restricted to shady habitats near streams and small springs. They can be found in mountain ranges with permanent running water.
Distribution: Waterberg, Otavi Mountains, Tsaris and Naukluft Mountains and around the Paresis Mountains.
Colouration: Olive green thorax with black stripes, black abdomen with some yellow spots, black pterostigma, dark metallic green eyes..
Breeding: Larvae take up to 60 days from egg to emergence, not believed to be enough time for survival in temporary waters.
Flight season: Throughout the year.
Max size: 48mm.
Conservation: Not threatened in Namibia although their isolated distribution could affect this status if spring-water extraction is carried out.
