Introduction: Because of the confusion in colours and markings of Dark Dropwings (Trithemis aequalis), little is known of this species other than they are found in flooded grass plains.

Colouration: There are a number of descriptions of colourations of this species but a rather reddish-violet pruinosity, bronzy-violet frons upper parts and a black, slender abdomen with yellow steaks appear to be the most popular.
Breeding: Females oviposit in fresh water.
Flight season: September and November.
Conservation: Data deficient.
