Dark dropwing

Trithemis aequalis
Because of the confusion in colours and markings of Dark Dropwings, little is known of this species other than they are found in flooded grass plains.

Introduction: Because of the confusion in colours and markings of Dark Dropwings (Trithemis aequalis), little is known of this species other than they are found in flooded grass plains.

Distribution: Kavango River and Epupa Falls.

Colouration: There are a number of descriptions of colourations of this species but a rather reddish-violet pruinosity, bronzy-violet frons upper parts and a black, slender abdomen with yellow steaks appear to be the most popular.

Breeding: Females oviposit in fresh water.

Flight season: September and November.

Conservation: Data deficient.
