Introduction: Black-winged Widows (Palpopleura lucia) occur at swamps. The name lucia is of importance in Swedish folklore (apparently!)
Distribution: Kavango River, Etosha National Park, Windhoek, Damaraland and central Namibia.
Colouration: Totally black forewings, black back of the thorax.
Breeding: Emergence from moulting from old skin until ready for aerial life is anything from 20mins to a couple of hours.
Flight season: September, December and March.
Conservation: Not threatened.
