Introduction: Black Perchers (Diplacodes lefebvrii) were named after the French entomologist Alexandre Lefebvre (1779-1868) who collected specimens on an expedition to Egypt in 1828-1829. Floating algae and grassy vegetation are their preferred habitats.
Distribution: Widespread and common throughout Namibia including Epupa Falls, Caprivi Strip, Kaokoland, Etosha National Park, Windhoek, Okahandja, some sections of the Namib Desert and scattered populations can be found in northern and central Namibia.
Colouration: Black face, thorax and abdomen.
Breeding: Breeds in temporary, standing waters, blackish spots on the hindwing..
Flight season: Throughout the year.
Max size: Hindwing length of 20 to 28mm. Males vary in size but are larger than females.
Conservation: Not threatened.
