Introduction: Barbet Perchers (Diplacodes luminans) are also known as Luminous Perchers. They are a migratory species preferring the more humid regions of Namibia to live and breed. Males perch from shoreline vegetation

Distribution: Widespread in the north of Namibia. Caprivi Strip, Etosha National Park, Tsumkwe, Windhoek, Swakop and Tsauchab River catchment areas.

Colouration: Red and yellow contrasts with black markings.

Breeding: Breeds in temporary, standing waters. Male guard females during egg-laying.

Flight season: December to March, April, May, August and October.

Max size: A medium-sized species.

Conservation: Not threatened.
