Assegai Sprites are so called because of the spear-like markings on segment 2, resembling the feared Zulu assegai weapon.

Introduction: Assegai Sprites (Pseudagrion assegaii) are so called because of the spear-like markings on segment 2, resembling the feared Zulu assegai weapon. Habitats include water lilies, shallow water fringes with lush vegetation.

Distribution: Kwando and Zambezi Rivers.

Colouration: Blue colouration with black markings.

Breeding: Egg development will increase with higher water temperatures.

Flight season: December, March and August.

Conservation: Uncommon but not threatened.
