Byblia ilithyea
Spotted Jokers (Byblia ilithyea) can stay at the same patch of ground for a number of consecutive days, opening and closing their wings. They inhabit savannah and dry grassland.

Introduction: Spotted Jokers (Byblia ilithyea) can stay at the same patch of ground for a number of consecutive days, opening and closing their wings. They inhabit savannah and dry grassland.

Distribution: Northern Namibia.

Breeding/Larval food: Pointed barrel-shaped eggs are covered in longitudinal rows of spines with long hairs. The larvae are brown or green and feed on nettles and stinging nettles.

Colouration: A distinctive row of spots run across the middle of the upper side of the hindwing.

On the wing: Throughout the year.

Wingspan: 38 to 45mm.
