I ntroduction: Rooibok/Window Acraeas (Acraea oncaea) are plentiful in bushveld areas, fluttering above the ground before settling on low plants.

I ntroduction: Rooibok/Window Acraeas (Acraea oncaea) are plentiful in bushveld areas, fluttering above the ground before settling on low plants.

Distribution: Common and widespread in Northern Namibia.

Breeding: Larval host-plants include Adenia sp which belong to the granadilla family and include vines, shrubs, trees and herbs.

Colouration: Males are red-brown with forewing veins outlined in black with a small black tip on the forewing apex. A narrow black band is evident on the outer margin of the hindwing.

On the wing: All year-round especially in the summer months.

Wingspan: Male: 40 to 47mm. Female: 40 to 55mm.
