A Pale Ranger is a small skipper that heads for the shade of low bushes or under trees.

Introduction: A Pale Ranger (Kedestes callicies) is a small skipper that heads for the shade of low bushes or under trees. They inhabit bushveld.

Distribution: Northern Namibia, Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip) , Okavango Delta.

Breeding/Larval food: Grass species.

Colouration: Dark brown above with some yellow spots on both sets of wings. Long yellow-brown hairs cover the basal areas of both wings. The undersides of all of the wings can be very noticeable when they rest on grass.

On the wing: November to April.

Wingspan: Male: 24 to 27mm. Female: 27 to 30mm.
