Marsh acraea

Acraea rahira rahira
The hurried flight of the Marsh Acraea (Acraea rahira rahira), can be seen close to streams, dams, rivers and marshes. Swarms of adults can be seen in these habitats.

Introduction: The hurried flight of the Marsh Acraea (Acraea rahira rahira), can be seen close to streams, dams, rivers and marshes. Swarms of adults can be seen in these habitats.

Distribution: The marshy areas of northern Namibia, Kavango River region east of Rundu .

Breeding: Eggs are laid on the surfaces of leaves.

Colouration: The male is orange-brown, with black streaks on the ends of all wing veins. Black spots scatter hind and forewings.

On the wing: For most of the year especially from September to April.

Wingspan: Male: 35 to 40mm. Female: 43 to 48mm.
