Introduction: Large Spotted Acraeas (Acraea (A) zetes) are large, slow fliers who frequent thornveld that will fly high if disturbed, making them difficult to catch.

Breeding: Host larval plants are from the Passiflora spp (but not granadilla).
Colouration: Large black spots on the forewing with a heavy black band on the outer margin on the underside of the hindwing, enclosing a line of white spots. Females are less prominent than males and are darker red-brown in colour.
On the wing: Throughout the year, but not so visible in the winter months.
Wingspan: Male: 55 to 65mm. Female: 60 to 70mm.
