Introduction: The Dwarf Sandman (Spialia nanus) flies around singly, usually feeding on flowers. They like to settle on stones or on the ground.
Distribution: Aus, central and southern Namibia, Kaokoland and the Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip) .
Breeding/Larval food: The leaves and flowers of the Wild pear (Dombeya rotundifolia).
Colouration: Black-brown uppersides with white to cream or pale green spots. Darker brown to grey undersides are spotted and striped in cream or white, with a distinct unbroken central band.
On the wing: From August to April.
Wingspan: 18 to 25mm.
