Introduction: The blotched sand catlet (Zaireichthys conspicuus) is a popular aquarium fish valued for its vibrant colours and peaceful behaviour.

Distribution: The blotched sand catlet is native to the Zambezi River, from the rapid sections at Katima Mulilo to just above the Victoria Falls.

Diet: In their natural habitat, blotched sand catlets feed mainly on various insects.

Colouring: Known for their unique appearance, blotched sand catlets have a premaxillary tooth patch with the buccal margin expanded laterally. It also has a more robust form and bold markings compared to other species in the Zaireichthys genus.

Reproduction: These fish are egg scatterers, with females releasing eggs and males fertilizing them.

Size: Adult blotched sand catlets typically reach lengths of around 4 cm, with males and females being similar in size.
