Grey headed parrot
Introduction: Grey-headed parrots (Poicephalus fuscicollis) are nomadic movers with seasonal movement patterns that mirror their response to changing food demands. They inhabit mainly woodland with mopane and miombo trees where they are active during the day in groups. Loud calls herald their return to roosts after early morning foraging sorties, perching in between visits to drinking and feeding sites.

Diet: Uses bill to climb trees in search of fruits.
Description: Fuscicollis is the Latin word for dusky-necked referring to the grey-green hind neck. They have long and pointed wings. Poicephalus is the Greek word for grey head.
Breeding: Nests are secondary cavities in a main tree trunk or branch. Between 2 and 4 eggs are laid between March and June with an incubation period of 30 days.
Size: 28 to 36cm.
Weight: 300g.
