Yellow crowned bishop

Introduction: The Yellow-Crowned Bishop (Euplectes afer) is a medium-sized weaver bird. The male exhibits bright yellow plumage on the head and back during breeding. Foraging for seeds, it builds intricately woven nests in tall grasslands near water.

Description: The Yellow-Crowned Bishop is a sexually dimorphic bird with distinctive yellow plumage on the head and back. The male displays vibrant yellow colouration during the breeding season, while the female has more subdued colouration with brownish plumage.

Habitat: This bird is commonly found in various grassland habitats, including savannas and wetlands. It prefers areas with tall grass, where it can easily construct its woven nests.

Diet: The Yellow-Crowned Bishop feeds primarily on seeds, including grass seeds and grains. It uses its sturdy bill to extract seeds from grass stalks and other plant materials.

behaviour: This species is highly active and often seen foraging on the ground, hopping and walking among the grass to find seeds. During the breeding season, the male performs courtship displays to attract females, showcasing its bright yellow plumage and singing intricate songs.

Reproduction: The Yellow-Crowned Bishop constructs an intricately woven nest made of grass and plant fibers. The nest is suspended among tall grass or reeds, providing a well-hidden location for the eggs and young chicks. The female lays a clutch of eggs, and both parents take turns incubating the eggs and caring for the young chicks.

Size: The Yellow-Crowned Bishop measures about 14–16 centimetres (5.5–6.3 inches) in length.

Weight: It typically weighs around 25–30 grams.
