Karoo eremomela
Introduction: Karoo eremomela (Eremomela gregalis) are sociable birds that favour shrublands on plains and hillsides in arid and semi-arid regions. The shrubland of the succulent Karoo is another habitat. They are resident in Namibia, but will move when local environmental conditions change sufficiently. This species is fairly difficult to locate, usually hiding in low bushes when disturbed.
Distribution: West central Namibia south through the Sperrgebeit to the Orange River and Fish River Canyon.
Diet: Eats small insects such as grasshoppers and ants.
Description: Underparts mainly greyish white, head and upper parts greyish green.
Breeding: Thin twigs, bark and dry grass are bought by group members to make a thick-walled cup-shaped nest. Usually 2 to 4 eggs are laid and incubated for around 11 days.
